2008 in review

After much delay, you've probably figured out that we didn't send out holiday cards this year. Somehow the holidays got away from me and after several attempts including the thought of a New Year's card, we decided that we would start this blog instead. So here's a brief summary of The Lakin's 2008.

In case you missed it, we had our first child, Gavin Michael Lakin, on Aug. 21 of this year. He came in at an even 8 lbs and measured 20.5". We had a little scare when we realized the cord might be wrapped around his neck (which it was) but delivery went smoothly and we have a healthy and very active little boy to prove it. Gavin is now 4 months and justed weighed in a little under 18 lbs and 26.5." He's already wearing 6 month clothes and occasionally the 9 month outfit. Yes, he's a big guy!

My brother, Jonathan, officially became Dr. Brugger, M.D. He's now if VA working at the navel hospital and was just selected for dive medicine which means he will train to be the doctor for a Navy dive team. If you know Jon, you know he has always loved swimming and diving so this is a great fit for him. He's not sure where he'll be stationed come this summer, but hopefully not too far away. Gavin would love to see more of his Uncle Jonny :)

In addition to becoming a dad, Lorne was promoted to Supervising Producer at HSN (Home Shopping Network) and now produces the electronic and toy shows. If you can believe it, he's been at HSN (and in FL) for a little over 6 years.

And me... in May I celebrated my 7th anniversary at the TBPAC (Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center). Man, the years just fly by. I worked up until the day I had Gavin and then went on a 12-week maternity leave. I've been back at work for a little over a month now and we're all adjusting nicely. It's definitely a balancing act, but everyone seems to be adjusting and enjoying the new schedule.

Then to finish off 2008, Lorne and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary on Dec. 18. And yes, Cooper (our dog) is still our favorite furry monster. He loves giving Gavin kisses. I can't wait to see them start playing together. Should be tons of fun for both of them!

And that, my friends, is 2008 in a nutshell. We wish you all the best in 2009 and look forward to keeping you posted on our lives. It's going to be a GREAT year!

Welcome!

In an effort to keep our friends and family updated on our happenings, we created this blog. We'll post updates about our family, Gavin's milestones and random musings. We'll try to post at least once a week, if not more frequently, and please feel free to post comments.
